Meet the new big talent on the Danish art scene, Marie Rud Rosenzweig, who is presenting her first solo exhibition in GL STRAND; KIPPLE, in this artist talk with freelance curator Tone Bonnén.
Marie Rud Rosenzweig graduated from Funen Art Academy in 2022 with painting as her primary medium. For this exhibition, she expands on her medium and presents a number of new paintings, a spatial intervention with flooring panels and a series of collaborative photographs.
A key point of departure for her body of work is Philip K. Dick’s seminal novel from 1968: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? In the book, the author introduces the idea of the ‘kipple’ as a small discarded object which, despite its designation as useless, has the ability to appear as living and reproduce.
With the exhibition KIPPLE, Marie Rud Rosenzweig builds on this idea that the objects we surround ourselves with can take on a life and personality of their own, separate to their original function. Moreover, when we finish using these objects or discard them, they become symbolic of specific life experiences.
