Studio talk: Marianne Jørgensen – The sculpture as a social gathering place
8 Jun 2023  16-18

Statens Værksteder for Kunst. Skitse af Marianne Jørgensen.

Marianne Jørgensen stays at the Danish Art Workshops to develop and produce PODEHAVEN (The Inoculation Garden) – a decoration for the public space in the Sculpture Village of Selde in Skive municipality.

Podehaven will become a coherent and slightly labyrinthine area with fruit trees, fruit bushes and herbs. The garden will be an area where you have a special experience of being present and feeling lucky in a fragrant, colorful and lush garden. A sit-friendly wall will encircle the garden and stand as a sculptural statement in autumn and winter, when the garden has faded. The wall is made of soft-laid red, hard-burnt bricks in precise, varied arches. The hard-burnt bricks are durable against wind and weather. The brick itself is designed with inspiration from the cell structures of plants.

Marianne Jørgensen’s work involves installations, sculpture, architecture, video and photography – often outside the confines of the art institution. Her artistic work is related to Land Art and her approach is conceptual, while the nature of the works ranges from the poetic to the critical. She often works with elements from our everyday lives, but on a large scale with materials such as soil, clay, grass and moss.

At this event, you are invited inside the clay workshop, where Marianne Jørgensen talks about her work with Podehaven and her experiences with public art seen in a temporal perspective.
