This feeling inside marks Danish artist Anne Sofie Meldgaard’s first solo exhibition in Format Artspace.
For the exhibition, the artist explores drawing on paper for the first time. Together with the oil painting, the exhibition consists of new works on paper, the common denominator of which is an expressive and immediate approach to two of art history’s classic motifs: the portrait and the flower. Without a prior sketch, the work arises between the hands of Meldgaard, who with an emotional and spontaneous approach allows the works to manifest from the artist’s own catalog of emotions.
The combination of the classic motif choices and an uncompromising and emotional painting process is an attempt to create an authentic and present take on the classic motif genres, which starts from the artist’s great love for the visual arts in both a historical and a contemporary context.
Anne Sofie Meldgaard: is educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (1994-2000), as well as at the Royal Academy of Arts, Stockholm (1998). She has exhibited at several Danish museums and kunsthalle – such as Himmerlands Kunstmuseum, Randers Kunstmuseum, Bornholm Kunstmuseum and the House for Art and Design, Holstebro. Meldgaard lives and works on Bornholm.
