Surreal domesticity in a transnational metamorphosis
During Art Week, Julie Stavad’s exhibition “I am here for pleasure but it is no fun” will be transformed into “A large bee crawls out of your shopping bag”. In this exhibition, Stavad focuses on capturing the frictions and relations between domestic objects in contrast with an industrial apparatus.
The premise of the exhibition is that a number of sculptures from Stavad’s exhibition at O-Overgaden will be moving out of their installatory context and into the new premises of Spanien19c in Aarhus Sydhavn as a part of Art Week’s RETUR program.
The two exhibitions offer different takes on a site-specific installation practice that reflects upon the relations between the domesticated and the poetic within the setting of a home.
At O-Overgaden, Stavad’s sculptures almost outgrow the exhibition in a kind of struggle between humans and their objects.
At Spanien19c, they will return “home” to Stavad’s own city, and will be enclosed and “tamed” in the context of an exhibition space that is locked away on a construction site. Here, the home is surrounded by large objects with an enormous mechanical power.
