On thursday 9 June at 5pm and on Saturday 11 June at 11 am Gallery Pilipczuk are thrilled to invite you for bubbles, coffee, croissants and a guided tour of Agnieszka Nienartowicz’s solo exhibition Longing for Another World. For the tour we give you the opportunity to get up close and personal with her latest masterpieces. The art historian and gallery owner Maja Rasmussen talks about the symbolism of the works and gives a close insight into the work of Nienartowicz. Among other relevant topics you will hear about Nienartowicz’s liberation from religion and about the challenges of becoming a well-known visual artist before the age of 30.
Agnieszka Nienartowicz’s oil paintings lead us into a universe that points back to and re-actualizes the great master painters through art history by reproducing selected parts of their art works in a new context. Nienartowicz is particular with her motif and chooses them with great care. She uses Christian themes for her paintings, such as sad Madonnas, scenes from The Last Judgment, Angels, Skeletons etc. and pair them with very feminine female bodies. Her hyper-realistic oil paintings exude sensuality and mystery in a tranquil and intimate setng and her depiction of tapooed women provides a glimpse into a hidden world full of unsolved riddles and secret thoughts.
For Nienartowicz’s solo exhibition Longing for Another World, she has for the first time during her career experimented with new forms of expression. In addition to her more traditional works, she also presents motifs without female tapooed bodies, where she retains her easily recognizable style and references to artists of the past.
