Taiwo Aiyedogbon (NGA) will perform in a site-specific VR performance installation telling a story of a popular Yoruba ceremonial masquerade. The project will question patriarchy as experienced by women in different aspects of life by creating a sacred space where we watch women being women. And also referencing the sole intent of the invention of the Gèlèdè.
Taiwo Aiyedogbon graduated from the department of Fine Art (Sculpture) at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Nigeria in 2017. In her practice, she explores a variety of methods including painting, experimental drawing, sculpture, installation and performance art. Her works often touch upon current issues related to politics and the environment in the city of Lagos.
Gèlèdè is the fourth installation VR performance installation created specifically for and exhibited at the FRIISLAND center for performance art. The VR performance series is part of an ongoing investiation of the potential of documention to perform in its own right.
