Galleri Susanne Ottesen is happy to present Isolation of the Parts, a solo exhibition by the late Danish artist, Per Kirkeby.
We are delighted to be presenting four of the eminent artist’s brick sculptures, which range in scale from the domestic to the momeuntal. The show will feature works from the 70s and 80s, including one unrealised work from 1989, never before built. With a nod to minimalism and to
the brick’s quintessentially Danish history, these are contemplative, often ornamental sculptures that challenge the notions of art, architecture and abstraction. Kirkeby created his first brick sculpture in Copenhagen in 1966 and continued to build both temporary and permanent sculptures throughout his career. In addition, he conceptualised a further 58 unrealised works which will be compiled for the first time in the forthcoming publication edited by Caroline Ballegaard, Per Kirkeby: The Complete Bricks, (Vol. 2), Unrealized Projects featuring texts by Richard Armstrong, Kasper König, Hans Ulrich Obtrist, Rudolf Sagmeister, Nick Serota and Robert Storr.
