Ole Vinter Room’s inaugural exhibition is a site specific installation by Jóhan Martin Christiansen. The exhibition Leave Me Breathless is thought especially for the meeting room in Ole Vinter’s iconic one-storey terraced building from 1953 situated in Håndværkerbyen, Valby. In his installation Christiansen addresses the building’s double-height ceilings and the warmth of the light that pours in from the north turning windows of the studio. He accentuates the imprints of time with the installation of a horizontal band of a delicately tinted pink frieze of plaster that defines the perimeter of the room by running along its walls.
Jóhan Martin Christiansen is an installation artist who works both with found objects as well as with handmade plaster casts and dyed fabrics. He cultivates an attraction in the decaying and worthless, taking on the Arte Povera interest in throwaway materials.
His style is sensual, tactile and aesthetic-conscious. Using body-related formats and materials he explores the past stored in them. He tries to form simple connections between the objects he finds, the landscape and the body. He refers to his work with casts as a graphic process, for him, they form afterimages of the surroundings.
Jóhan Martin Christiansen (b. 1987) lives and works in Copenhagen. He received an MFA from Malmö Art Academy and is a recipient of Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Talent Award.
