Ladder space presents Industrious youth – an exhibition exploring the centuries-old steel industry located deep in the Swedish forests, where a young generation is left with the ecological and economic consequences of the eagerness of industrialism.
Industrious youth is centered around Annsofidotter’s hometown Degerfors where the heart of the city is the steel production that developed during the 17th century. A place where steel, granite rocks, dark rivers and deep forests intertwine with the everyday rhythm and economy of its residents. The exhibition examines the paradox of how personal narratives, poetry and love stories weave in and out of the harsh framework that industrialization and the late capitalist society set for the individual. Industrious youth unfolds between the steel factory and the deep green woods, the longing for a prosperous past, and the hopeful potential of new generations.
