At dusk we will open the approx. 1,200 degrees hot Crazykiln. And the audience can experience the red and white glowing items inside. Sawdust is thrown into the kiln – creating a dramatic and spectacular fireworks display with sparks rising to the sky. At the same time, this creates an oxygen reduction which affects the clay and glaze in an unpredictable and intensifying way. Finally, we close the kiln again, and the items will cool down slowly until the next day. At that time the kiln will be emptied and the works displayed.
The idea of project Burning Viper II and this Crazykiln is, among other things, that we can experiment and try out extreme and strange things, that you cannot expose to an ordinary kiln to. By using alternative types of materials and fuel, we can explore and find new ways to go – as well as, for example, adding ash and soda, which can form glazes in different ways.
