Art Talk: TO WRITE, FERMENT AND CURATE IN SYNC – OR OUT OF SYNC – WITH OUR SURROUNDINGS
8 Jun 2023  17-18:30

Milena Høgsberg, Ida Marie Hede, David Zilber.

Experience three different takes on the ways we affect the world around us. Meet author Ida Marie Hede, fermenting expert David Zilber, and artistic director in a talk about different practices that deal with connecting us to the surrounding world.

In her book Adorable, Ida Marie Hede relates internal bodily connections to external social connections. Here, bacteria live as invisible communities in our bodies – just as families live in a larger world we do not fully have access to, but which we experience through images and stories. For this talk, she will, based on passages from her book, talk about how she is inspired by intestinal bacteria as an allegory for interpersonal connections in society, among other things.

David Zilber is a chef and fermentation expert as well as the author of The Noma Guide to Fermentation. Based on his many years of expertise within his field, he will talk about how to create more sustainable connections between humans and nature, through fermentation. Milena Høgsberg is director of Wanås Konst – an exhibition space in the forest, where site-specific contemporary art lives side by side with trees and moss. In this context, she will talk about curating in sync with the premise of the exhibition space and how to create new connections between art, nature and an audience.

The talk will be held in English and moderated by journalist, art critic and editor in chief Oliver Stilling.

This talk is presented in relation to GL STRAND’s current exhibitions. Here, the artists work with strange and sometimes surreal connections to the world around us. Whether it is Tabaimo’s hand drawings, where organs and skeletons merge with vegetation, or Marie Rud Rosenzweig’s story about everyday objects that come to life of their own volition, they both reflect on the interactions between people and their environment.
